What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient and revered practice that promotes and accelerates healing and balancing of body, mind and spirit through the laying-on of hands. Reiki (pronounced ray-key), is a Japanese word that translates as “Universal Life Energy” [Rei—Universal; Ki—Energy]. Reiki originated with Dr. Mikao Usui (1865—1926) and has been passed on through a specific system of initiations. A Reiki practitioner has the ability to focus and direct this energy by simply placing their hands on the body of the person receiving treatment. Reiki is not a spiritual belief system and in no way contradicts any individual religious beliefs. It is, instead, a simple and gentle transfer of energy that accelerates the body's ability to heal physical and emotional ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, the necessity for taking responsibility for one's life and the joys of balanced wellness. Reiki is an intelligent energy that knows where to go in the body and just how much energy is required. The energy of Reiki is offered to support the highest good of the receiver and is accepted and used on that level.
What can Reiki do for you?
Reiki is effective both as a preventative measure as well as a healing modality. Over the years Reiki has been used for many different conditions and for many different reasons including the alleviation of pain; the promotion of deep emotional release and healing; the accelerat ion of physical healing. It helps to bring peace to agitated minds, it promotes relaxation and balances the energy system.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Because Reiki is a gentle but powerful energy work, it can be effectively used on anyone, regardless of their age or their condition.
What to expect during a Reiki session?
The client relaxes fully clothed on the practitioner's table. The practitioner will place their hands directly on the body in specific positions. The hands are placed gently on the body. As there is no pressure this is an ideal treatment for people of all ages and for all conditions. At times the hands are held away from the body. Reiki is an ‘intelligent' energy and will flow exactly where it is needed. The sensation of Reiki experienced by the person on the table can vary quite considerably depending on the person, however it is most often experienced as a warm or tingling sensation. Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing and soothing experience! The duration of the Reiki session can vary from 45—90 minutes.
Reiki Initiations
Reiki is not taught in the conventional way, rather the ability to use Reiki is passed on to the student by the Reiki Master through a specific attunement process. This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source. The Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience and once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will have Reiki for the remainder of your life. It does not wear off and you can never lose it.
