LYMPHATIC STIMULATION MASSAGE
by Beverley Hawkins

The Lymphatic System consists of vessels, nodes and fluid which work to help keep the interstitial spaces surrounding our tissues and cells clean from debris and excess fluids. It then returns these waste items to the veins for disposal by the body's blood circulation. The Lymphatic Circulatory System is considered passive, that is, it requires movement to increase and improve its flow. Sometimes, lymphatic flow is impaired or reduced, which then creates issues for our tissues.

Lymphatic Stimulation Massage (LSM) is a very precise technique which requires light, rhythmical, spiral-like movements to accelerate the movement of lymphatic fluids in the body . These gentle, specific wave-like movements activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the Immune System and Para-sympathetic Nervous System (our relaxation response). Some of the results one can expect include:

· Reduction in edemas (swelling) and lymphedemas of various origins

· Detoxification of the body

· Regeneration of tissues, including that of burns, fractures, wounds and wrinkles

· Anti-aging effects

· Relief of numerous chronic and sub-acute inflammations, including sinusitis, bronchitis and otitis (ear ache)

· Relief of chronic pain

· Reduction in the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ( CFS ) and Fibromyalgia

· Deep relaxation to aid insomnia, stress, loss of vitality and loss of memory

· Reduction or elimination of adipose (fat) and cellulite tissue

A Lymphatic Stimulation Massage can be given to the whole body or to specific body areas needing help. Although it feels very light, it is a very powerful treatment. Research has shown that 10-15 minutes of Lymphatic Stimulation Massage lowers the blood pressure. Because of this and the fact of its profound sense of relaxation, one must remain lying down for at least 10-15 minutes following this type of massage. This allows the blood pressure and fluids in the body to stabilize. Getting up from the massage too quickly can cause dizziness and fainting, if not careful.
