REIKI
Beverley Hawkins, Reiki Master
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kee) was discovered in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui and is a technique used for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing . Reiki, a Japanese word, is often translated as “Universal Life Energy” . Rei=Universal Ki=Life Energy. However, according to an article by William Rand, “Rei as it is used in Reiki is more accurately interpreted to mean super-natural knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from God or the Higher Self. It is all-knowing. It understands each person completely. It knows the cause of all problems and difficulties and knows what to do to heal them. … Therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy.” While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. Nor is it dependent upon a certain state of mind or belief system.
When giving a Reiki session the practitioner takes a moment to centre, and then connects with the energy. The energy is now available for the client to draw on. Once the connection is made, Reiki will do whatever is required to serve the client's Highest Good.
Each person's experience with Reiki is unique and it can be quite different from one session to another. Some may feel the sensations of energy, tingles or pins and needles. Some may feel movements along the body or changes in temperature. Others may feel virtually nothing, but for almost everyone there is a sense of relaxation and lightness. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being.
Reiki can also be a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that anyone who has been attuned to it can use. It has been found to be effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki works in conjunction with all other medical and therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Animals and plants really enjoy receiving Reiki. Beverley's Boxe, Duke, loved receiving Reiki from the time he was a young dog until the time he went to “doggie heaven”. Duke would come and sit in front of her and push his back into her legs. This was his signal that he wanted Reiki! He would sit quietly for a time, when he had enough; he would simply get up and walk away.
